The Campo de Dalias is an emerged zone located at the northern boundary of Alboran Sea. The Neogene-Quaternary sediments of the Campo de Daifas are deformed by E-W open folds that also uplift Sierra de Cádor. The field studies reveals the existence of several joint sets with trends comprised between N170°E and N120°E some of them active at present. The oldest fault recognised in the region is normal, has an E-W trend, south dipping and is covered by Tortonian calcarenites. Other set of synsedimentary faults with N145°E trend deform Tortonian calcarenites. The best represented faults in the region are the Plio-Quaternary trastensional faults with dextral and sinistral components. Its trends are comprised between N170°E and N120°E and are compatible with a stress field ofSW-NE extension. These faults are mainly reactivated from previous joints and are active at present determining the coastline in the Balanegra fault zoneen_US
