Abstract

The magnetochronology of the syntectonic sedimentary infilling of the Tertiary Basin of As Pontes (Northwest Spain) has allowed to determine that the activity of the N W -SE dextral strike -slip faults systems o f Galicia affecting the NW margin of the Iberian Plate from the upper most Early Oligocene (Upper took placa Stampian) to the Early Miocene (Upper Aquitanian). The end of the movement of these fault systems coincides with the end of activity of the NW Iberian plate boundary acording to the sea-floor magnetic anomalies. Thus the end of the offshore tectonic activity was corval with its end in the NW Spanish onshore
