Abstract
Dr. José Royp y Gómez reached Colombia in 1939; at that time he combined solid field and paleontologic experience which enable him to start a whole new field, that is the analysis of the stratigraphic development of northern South America . Soon after arriving at Bogotá, Dr. Royo y Gómez began the organization of the Museo Geológico; in recognition of this fundamental contribution to the scientific culture of Colombia , this museum bears his name
