Abstract
La decisión de afrontar un gran programa de adquisiciones para la defensa suele tener
muy presente los costes que supone. Si bien en ocasiones tal decisión queda delimitada a la
consideración de costes de adquisición, es menester entrar exhaustivamente en el resto de costes
que supondrá el mantenimiento durante un determinado ciclo de vida de las funciones esperadas de
los activos. En ese sentido, el presente artículo pretende dar una visión o panorámica general al
asunto de la modernización de activos militares, en particular, los vehículos blindados. Concretamente, a lo largo de este documento se observará qué es lo que motiva a esa
modernización y en qué ámbitos parece más apropiado aplicarlos. Todo ello, relacionándolo con
conceptos procedentes del ámbito de la gestión de activos industriales como son la vida útil, el ciclo
de vida o la fiabilidad de un sistema que, en nuestro caso, será el vehículo de combate
The decision to undertake a large procurement program for the defense takes obviously into account the involved costs. However, this decision is occasionally limited to the acquisition costs without considering exhaustively other aspects required for the maintenance of the fleet during a certain life cycle. In this sense, the present article is intended to provide a general overview to the subject of upgrading military assets, in particular, armored vehicles. Specifically, throughout this document it will be seen what motivates this upgrade and in what areas should be applied. All these topics will be linked also to concepts from the field of industrial asset management such as the useful life, life cycle or asset reliability that, in our case, regards to the combat vehicle
