Abstract
The objective of this study has been to determine how cooperatives, based on a set of social and environmental principles and values, can contribute to socio-ecological transformation through social innovation (SI). To this end, the common elements of cooperatives with both SI and socio-ecological transformation have been analysed through a literature review. To further illustrate these relationships, several experiences of cooperatives worldwide that develop SI have been analysed to identify which elements of socioecological systems they change and how they contribute to building fairer and more sustainable models. Results obtained show that cooperatives can contribute to socio-ecological transformation through transformative SI.
