Estudio previo de las «costras negras» desarrolladas sobre rocas graníticas en la catedral de Toledo

Abstract

Black crusts are typical chemical weathering features of different building materials. In this paper we present the preliminary results obtained through the study of the black crusts developed on some of the building materials of the Toledo Cathedral. These cruts (0.5-1.8 mm. thick) are mainly developed on fine-grained granites. They consist mainly of fine gypsum crystals however minor amounts of carbonates and fired carbonaceous particles are also present As an hypothesis, weathering of the plagioclases and atmospheric SO2 are considered to be the sources of the gypsum crusts

Las costas negras son características químicas típicas de la meteorización de diferentes materiales de construcción. En este artículo, se presentan los resultados obtenidos por el estudio de las costras negras desarrolladas en algunos materiales de la construcción de la Catedral de Toledo. Estas costras, de 0.5-1.8 mm de grosor, fueron principalmente desarrolladas en granitos de grano fino. Estas consisten principalmente en cristales finos de yeso, aunque también hay menores cantidades de carbonatos y partículas carbonáceas cocidas. Como hipótesis, se considera que la meteorización de las plagioclasas y el SO2 atmosférico son la fuente de las costras de yeso.
