Sobre la contaminación microbiológica del acuífero de la Vega de Granada

Abstract

The microbiologic quality of the groundwater in the alluvial aquifer of the Vega de Granada is acceptable. Nevertheless, almost 20% of the points sampled present low to moderate degrees of faecal contamination.

These cases are closely related with leaks and the discharge of urban wastewater. A further contributory factor is the existence of high-risk irrigation practices, such as inundation with untreated (or ineffectively treated) urban wastewater where the piezometric levels are less than 20 m below ground level. Consequently, the incidence of contamination detected corresponds to specific situations or practices, in particular geographic areas and is generally of very limited duration
