Abstract
The values of ô18 0 (SMOW) for two types of chert (early and late) present in the carbonate turbidites of the Plencia formation (Basque-Cantabric Basin) have been obtained. Early chert displays middle values of 29.3 ± 0/45 0/00, while late chert reaches 28.3 ± 0/37 0/00 (n=5). Based on Kita et al.’s (1985) expression, we suggest a tQ around 45-55Q C for early chert’s formation, according to the ô18 0 (1-120) = 0± 1 0/00 values, while late chert surpases such temperature by 52 C, considering the intersticial fluids’ composition as similar.
