An extension of Cooper's (1983) method allows the calculation o f the bulk strain in rotated areas, If the maximum rotation of an area is known it is possible to determine the extreme values of bulk shortening for a specific cross section. This type of estimation has been tested in the Sierras Exteriores (Southern Pyrenees), using paleomagnetic data, and demonstrates that the calculation of bulk shortening in rotated areas may be done obtaining satisfactory resultsen_US
