A comparative analysis was carried out between two classical statistical models of rainfall: the extreme annual value series model, applying the Gumbel distribution, and the partial duration series method. Both were applied to Campo de Dallas and the southern edge of the Sierra de Gador, a semiarid Mediterranean area. Though the partial duration series is clearly superior when measuring oyer a short period of time, the Gumbel distribution for extreme annual values has the advantage of simplicity . and speed of application for longer duration series.en_US
