Abstract

Water balances in the Vélez river aquifer have been carried out for the hydrological years 1993/94 and 1994/95. Accurate evaluation of fresh-water inputs and outputs from the detrital aquifer indicates that it has been over-exploited during this period, resulting in a considerable decline in the potentiometric surface and the advance of saltwater intrusion in the coastal sector of this aquifer
