Geometry and kinematic of post-Aquitanian brittle deformation in the Alpujárride rocks and their relation with the Alpujárride/ Nevado-FiIábride contact

Abstract

An extensional britt/e detachment with a top-to-the-west directed movement exists between the Alpujárride and Nevado-FiIábride Complexes (Betic Cordilleras): The Mecina Detachment Fault. Extensional duplexes and thinning of Alpujárride rocks are originated by a set of Iow angle normal faults in the hanging wall of this detachment. The Mecina Extensional System, including those faults, was active from Burdigalian till early Tortonian. We propose that the Mecina Extensional System would participate in the thinning of the South Iberian Peninsula continental crust

Existe un movimiento de detachment fragil con movimiento del bloque de techo hacia el oeste entre los complejos Alpujárride y Nevado-Filábride (Cordilleras Béticas): la falla de detachment de Mecina. Dúplex extensionales y adelgazamiento de las rocas del Alpujárride se producen por una serie de fallas normales de bajo ángulo en los muros del detachment. El Sistema Extensional de Mecina, incluyendo estas fallas, estuvo activo desde el Burdigaliense hasta el Tortoniense temprano. Proponemos que el Sistema Extensional de Mecina participaría en el adelgazamiento de la corteza continental del sur de la Península Ibérica.
