La evaluación del profesorado universitario en tiempos de pandemia: los sistemas online de gestión de encuestas de satisfacción estudiantil

Abstract

Las encuestas de satisfacción de los estudiantes sobre la actividad docente, a pesar de la gran controversia que generan y su poco grado de fiabilidad para evaluar de forma sumativa la calidad de la enseñanza impartida, se llevan implementando en la enseñanza universitaria desde hace más de cien años en el mundo anglosajón y aproximadamente cuarenta años en España. Durante la pandemia ocasionada por la COVID-19 muchas instituciones de educación superior decidieron no realizar estas evaluaciones o llevarlas a cabo con una serie de modificaciones. Sin embargo, es poco probable que este estado de emergencia en cuanto a la evaluación del profesorado se prorrogue más allá del curso académico 2019-20. Dado que es indiscutible que la vuelta a una completa normalidad en las aulas va a ser imposible durante, por lo menos, la primera mitad del curso 2020-21, resulta necesario considerar de qué manera se pueden realizar estas evaluaciones adaptándolas a la nueva normalidad de forma que no penalicen al profesorado por unas circunstancias sobre las cuales no tienen control. Los sistemas online para la creación y gestión de evaluaciones del profesorado ofrecen esta funcionalidad y se perfilan como una herramienta de gran utilidad para adaptarse a las condiciones específicas de cada centro y programa universitario. Sin embargo, para sacar el máximo provecho de estos sistemas, es necesario conocer los sesgos inherentes a las evaluaciones del profesorado y las limitaciones de los sistemas online que se usan para la realización de estas y el análisis de los datos obtenidos.

Student satisfaction surveys on teaching activity, despite the great controversy they generate and their low degree of reliability in assessing in a summative way the quality of the teaching provided, have been implemented in university education for more than a hundred years in the Anglo-Saxon world and approximately forty years in Spain. During the pandemic caused by COVID-19, many institutions of higher education decided not to carry out these evaluations or to carry them out with a series of modifications. However, this state of emergency regarding teacher evaluation is unlikely to be extended beyond the 2019-20 academic year. Given that it is indisputable that the return to a complete normality in the classrooms will be impossible during at least the first half of the 2020-21 academic year, it is necessary to consider how these evaluations can be carried out, adapting them to the new normality of so that teachers are not penalized for circumstances over which they have no control. Online systems for the creation and management of teacher evaluations offer this functionality and are outlined as a very useful tool to adapt to the specific conditions of each center and university program. However, to get the most out of these systems, it is necessary to know the biases inherent in teacher evaluations and the limitations of the online systems used to carry them out and analyze the data obtained.
