El futuro de la industria española

Abstract

Este artículo define una estrategia de desarrollo industrial para España que debe permitir, no sólo superar el importante daño originado por las dos recientes crisis – la Gran Recesión y la pandemia provocada por el coronavirus – sino también aumentar de forma sensible el peso de las manufacturas en el PIB, revirtiendo una parte del proceso de desindustrialización vivido en las últimas décadas. Las ayudas que España recibirá del Fondo Europeo NextGenerationEU ofrecerán una gran oportunidad para implementarla, buscando resultados ambiciosos, dado que se parte de una industria con bases competitivas sólidas. Pero resulta crucial contar con un Estado más activo, dotado de una visión más amplia del papel que puede desempeñar en el desarrollo industrial y de mejores instrumentos de intervención

This article defines an industrial development strategy, which should not only allow Spain to overcome the serious damage caused by the two recent crises – the Great Recession and the coronavirus pandemic – but also enable a significant increase in the weight of the manufacturing sector in her GDP, thus reversing part of the deindustrialization process experienced in recent decades. The aid which Spain will receive from the NextGenerationEU fund will offer a great opportunity to ambitiously implement such a policy, given the solid competitive foundations of Spanish industry. Nevertheless, it is crucial to count on a more active state, with a broader vision of the role it can play in industrial development and equipped with better instruments of intervention
