La presencia portuguesa en el litoral occidental onubense, 1870-1936

Abstract

Las actividades pesquera y conservera desarrolladas a lo largo del siglo XIX en el litoral occidental onubense (Ayamonte, Huelva, Isla Cristina y Lepe) atrajeron a numerosos inmigrantes, destacando entre ellos los procedentes de Portugal. Estos procedían de los municipios costeros del Algarve (Vila Real, Tavira, Faro..), en los que también se desarrollaban actividades económicas similares. El crecimiento demográfico del Algarve en el siglo XIX , el mayor de Portugal, empujó a muchos de sus habitantes hacia la provincia de Huelva a actividades relacionadas con la pesca, las conservas o la minería._______________________________The activities fishing and conserves developed throughout century XIX in the western coast of Huelva (Ayamonte, Huelva, Isla Cristina...) attracted numerous immigrants, emphasizing among them coming from Portugal. These came from the coast municipalities of Algarve (Vila Real, Tavira, Faro...), in which also similar economic activities were developed. The population increase of the Algarve in century XIX, the greater one of Portugal, pushed many of its inhabitants toward the province of Huelva to activities related to the fishing, conserves or the mining.
