Abstract
In this paper we study four cores drilled in the Azkorri beach (Biscay), consisting of abundant deposits of iron slag discharged during the 20th century. The study of benthic foraminifers species, together with the sedimentological analysis performed, allow us to define three assemblages. Assemblage 1 of natural high-energy open beach deposited prior to the massive discharges of iron slag. The overlyingy assemblage 2 reflects less energy in, both the anthropised and innermost original beaches. Assemblage 3 defined in the topmost part of the cores obtained in the supratidal zone corresponds with reduced tidal influence, culminating in presumable eolian deposit of littoral foraminifers
