Abstract
La peste fue una de las enfermedades
más temidas tratadas en los hospitales españoles
durante el Antiguo Régimen. El objetivo
central de este estudio es conocer el
tratamiento y los cuidados que se dispensaban
a los enfermos de peste ingresados en
los hospitales castellanos en el siglo XVII
a través del tratado elaborado a mediados
de esa centuria por un enfermero, Simón
López, basado en su propia experiencia de
más de 25 años trabajando en distintos
hospitales castellanos.
El tratamiento, cuidado y cura de los
enfermos en los hospitales recaían sobre
distintos grupos profesionales sanitarios de
elevada cualificación, principalmente médicos,
cirujanos y boticarios. Además de ellos,
se fue perfilando a lo largo del siglo XVI
una figura que existía desde mucho tiempo
atrás, pero con unos perfiles poco nítidos
en su quehacer y atribuciones, pero que fue
ganando en importancia: los enfermeros.
The Plague disease was one of the most feared, dangerous and dread disease treated in Spanish hospitals during the Old Regime. The main objective of this study was to determine the treatment and care that isdispensed to plague victims admitted to the castilians hospitalsin the seventeenth century through the treaty finished in 1668 by a nurse, Simon Lopez, based on their experience of over 25years working on different castilian hospitals. The treatment, cure and cares for the sick in hospitals fell on various highly skilled occupational groups, primarily physicians, surgeon sand apothecaries. Besides them, took shape along the XVI century, a figure that was a long time ago, but with a little sharp profiles in their work and responsibilities: nurses.
