Step-by-step restored cross-sections across the northern Apennines allow the reconstruction of the kinem atics of the orogenic belt as well as amounts of shortening and extension. The convergence between the Apulian plate and the Corsica-Sardinia block during the Oligocene formed a stack of basement and cover units affected by metamorphism. From Miocene to present, compression migrated towards the foreland coevally with crustal extension into the hinterland with development of extensional fault systemses_ES
