Abstract

Casiano de Prado, an outstanding geologist and engineer of the XIX century, paid a number of contributions to the Spanish sciences that are to be remembered this year, on the occasion of the second centenary of his birth. He also carried out important geographic explorations and altitude measurements, especially those in the Central Massif of the Pirns de Europa. These explorations included the first registered ascents to the Picos de Europa summits
