Abstract

This article summarizes some studies about geochemistry of melts of two samples of albitites from San Pedro de Paredes (Asturias) and theoretical models of melting and cr ystallization of a pure albitite. Experimental studies show that two albitites with different content of quartz (Ab/Ab+Q > 0,95 and ~0,68) produce different quantities of melt of very similar composition (high percentage of SiO2, Al2O3 and Na2O). Theoretical models of melting at constant pressure or temperature show that preferential melting of plagioclase and quartz determines melt quantity. Crystallization models show the order of formation of minerals: anhydrous ferromagnesian phases are the first formed ones, followed by plagioclase and, finally, hydrous ferromagnesian phases
