One of the most important geological controversies during the 19th century in Spain was the use of the «ter'ranes» suffixes. These suffixes were tréatedin different ways by several authors, for instance the discussion between Prädo and Vilanova about this question; Then, the minning engineers used the suffix -ano for the Palaeozoic «terrane» (e.g. Siluriano), while Vilanova proposed in the Geological International Congress the suffix -ico for the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic «terrane» (e.g. Silúrico)en_US
