Abstract
This study presents a geomorphological map revision of Miera valley (Cantabria, N Spain) with a twofold goal: 1) to know the distribution of glacial landforms in Alto Miera (Cantabria); and 2) to reconstruct quantitatively the maximum extent reached by the Miera paleo glacier during the local glacial maximum and thus to infer the paleo equilibrium line altitude according to different methods. The reconstruction presented indicates that the paleo glacier covered an area of 6.5 km2, distributed at elevations between 1564 m and 560 m. The ice tongue reached a length over 6 km and a maximum thickness of 128 m. The glacier equilibrium line would have been located between 1001 m and 951 m.
