Un ejemplo de paleocaverna con relleno calizo brechoide (Punta Arenillas, Albiense inferior, Cantabria)

Abstract

The Lower Albian pimacle platform of Arenillas in Castro-Urdiales (Cantabria, northern Spain) shows a paleocavern about 120 m long and 40 m high, whose base is 60 m below an unconformity. This vadose structure is infilled with breccia clasts up to 4 m long which have terrigenous matrix in the Iower part and carbonate matrix in the upper-central part. The paleo-cavern was formed during a phase of subaerial exposure, and was filled from local and external sources during the ensuing marine transgression

La plataforma de la cumbre del Albiense inferior de Arenillas en Castro-Urdiales (Cantabria, norte de España) muestra una paleocaverna de unos 120 m de largo y 40 de alto, cuya base está 60 m bajo una discordancia. Esta estructura vadosa está rellena con clastos de brechas de hasta 4 m de largo, los cuales tienen una matriz terrígena en la parte baja, y una matriz carbonatada en la parte alta-central. La paleocaverna fue formada durante una fase de exposición subaérea, y fue rellenada de fuentes locales y externas durante la resultante transgresión marina.
