Priapea

Abstract

La fama de la colección de los Priapea esta orientada por lo general en una dirección: poemas obscenos dedicados a un dios, Príapo, guardián de los huertos. Sin embargo, una lectura sin prejuicios de los poemas nos lleva mucho más allá. Escrito probablemente en un época de refinamiento estético literario, entre el siglo I y II d. C., el autor o autores han escogido un personaje de características eróticas marcadas, enmarcado en un escenario idéntico, y han jugado a presentarlo igual a sí mismo y siempre diverso. El resultado es una poesía técnicamente irreprochable, impregnada de humor, y elegante, adjetivo que suele atribuírsele en los resúmenes que del compendio se ofrecen.

Se ha tratado de ofrecer una versión latina fiable, consecuencia del estudio textual de los numerosos manuscritos, y reconstruir la posible historia del texto a partir del primer ejemplar conocido: una copia realizada por Bocaccio; asimismo se estudia la técnica de composición del conjunto, junto a su posible autoría y datación La traducción –que ha añadido priapeos no pertenecientes al compendio- manteniendo la fidelidad al texto ha procurado respetar el registro poético del original.

The fame of the Priapea’s collection is normally oriented in a determined direction: obscene poetry dedicated to a god, Priapo, guardian of orchards. However, reading without prejudices allows us to go further. Probably written in an era of literary aesthetic refinement, between the first and second century A.D., the author has chosen a character with marked erotic characteristics, situated in an identic scenery, and have played with these elements. The result is a technically unreproachable poetry, full of humor, and elegant, adjective that is often associated in the resumes offered. We tried to offer a reliable Latino version, as a consequence of the textual study of numerous manuscripts, and to rebuild the possible story of the text starting from the first known exemplar: a copy made by Bocaccio. At the same time, the composition technique is studied, along with its possible authorship and dating. The translation -which has added priapeos that do not belong to the compendium- maintains fidelity to the text, has procured to respect the original poetic register.
