Abstract
En este trabajo se ha realizado el estudio petrológico y de química mineral
de una selección de lavas representativas, distribuidas a lo largo de la
secuencia vulcanoestratigráfica de la isla Graciosa (Azores). Estas lavas comprenden
términos basálticos-traquíticos caracterizados por presentar texturas
porfídicas y microcristalinas, cuyas fases minerales principales son olivino,
clinopiroxeno, plagioclasa, con menor proporción de anfíbol y minerales
opacos. El estudio de los equilibrios mineral-líquido en los diferentes tipos
de cristales existentes en los productos volcánicos de la isla ha permitido diferenciar
la existencia de fenocristales, microcristales y antecristales. La existencia
de antecristales en las rocas de los complejos volcánicos más antiguos
de la isla ha permitido inferir la naturaleza basáltica del vulcanismo
proto-isla
This study concerns the petrology and mineral chemistry of selected lava flows from the volcanoestratigraphic sequence of Graciosa Island (Azores). These lavas are classified as basalts to trachytes. They show microcrystalline and porphyritic textures characterized by a mineral assemblage mainly composed of olivine, clinopyroxene and plagioclase with minor amphibole and opaque minerals. The application of mineral-melt equilibrium equations made it possible to identify different crystal types within the studied lavas: phenocrysts, microcrysts and antecrysts. The antecrysts in the oldest volcanic complexes suggest a basaltic composition for the proto-island volcanism
