Abstract

The mid Campanian to Paleocene section ih Sierra del Carche (jumilla, Prebetic Domain, SE Spain) consists of 125 meters of carbonates and marls deposited in open platforrh environments. Facies analysis Of these rocks characterize three màjó'r uncohfomities (mid Maastrichtian, latest Maastrichtian to earliest Paleocene, and mid Paleocene in age), and define the main Changes in bathymetry occurring throughout the basin during this time. The establishment Of unconformities and water-depth trends is important because of thé privileged paleogeographic location occupied by the Sierra del Carche within the BetiC Margin: an intermediate position between the deeper facies of the Subbetic Domain (to the southeast) and the shallower sediments of other areas of the Prebetic Domain (to the northwest). Thus, the results of this work provide a good stratigraphie basis for intrabasirial correlation
