Aplicaciones en la producción de materiales vitrocerámicos de residuos minerales de canteras y serrerías de granito

Abstract

Since time the different mineral phases which constitute the granite rocks have been proposed and used as raw material for the manufacturing of ceramics and glasses. More recently, due to the environmental and storage problems o f the high volume o f industrial and mineral w astes, the glass and glass-ceramics techonologies are being proposed as economical and useful methods for the management of this type of residues. Therefore, research is being carried out under contract with the European Community in order to know the experimental capability of wastes from Spanish quarries and sawing factories for the production of new glasses and glass-ceramics with adequate properties in applications in Architecture and Civil Constructions. Materials Science characterization techniques and processing methods are being applied for this investigation in the following Spanish granites: La Cabrera from Madrid area, Quintana from the Extremadura area and Porriño from Galicia
