Abstract

A new palaeoenvironmental interpretation of the Middle Albian-Lower Cenomanian Balmaseda Formation, deposited in SW margin o f the Basque Cantabrian Basin (N Spain) is offered here. According to the facies association, sedimentary sequences and paleocurrents analysis of the unit in the Tornos Pass cross section (Vizcaya, Burgos and Cantabria provinces), the western part of the Balmaseda Fm. has been explained as a storm dominated siliciclastic shelf
