Abstract
Selected asphalt and black-shale type samples from the Basque-Cantabrian region were analyzed from a stratigraphlcal/sedlmentological and geochemical (gas chromatography) points of view. Preliminary results on the origin of the organic matter, the diagenetic pathways and possible high geothermal gradient related with faults controlling OM maturity are suggested
