Abstract

The Baix Ebre graben constitutes a small part of the western Mediterranean graben system related with the western European rift which is superimposed to the Alpine structural trend, in the Baix Ebre graben other small grabens (El Burga, I'Ametlla, I'Ampolla, Tortosa, La Senia, Sant Mateu and Vinards), can be distinguished by their sedimentary fill and structural geometries, in the Neogene deposits several lithostratigraphic units are distinguished; Mitanpiana conglomerates (M), Vinaxarop siliceous gravels (Mt), Vinaiiop marls (P) and La Senia iutites (Pv). The Quaternary lithostratigraphic units distinguished are; Peios gravels (Q) and Sant Antoni gravels (Qp). The Neogene units represent midfan conglomerates (M), sedimentary fill of a paleovaliey topography (Mt), confined marine marls (P) and distal alluvial fan deposits (Pv). During the Quaternary these units represent alluvial fan deposits (Q) and braided fluvial deposits (Qp). The sedimentary relationships o f d iffe ren t subsurface stratigraphic units that fill the Neogene Baix Ebre graben basin are described b y means o f drill hole data which permits a new proposd lithostratigraphic correlation
