Eustaquio Jiménez, Los lugares colombinos y la defensa del legado americanista

Abstract

La defensa y la puesta en valor de los conocidos como lugares colombinos toma sentido a raíz del IV Centenario del Descubrimiento de América y de la fundación de instituciones como la Real Sociedad Colombina Onubense. Desde una óptica patrimonial y turística, el moguereño Eustaquio Jiménez Mantecón (1880-1942) se convertirá, en las primeras décadas del siglo XX, en uno de sus más firmes defensores. Este estudio pretende conocer más en profundidad los intentos e ilusiones del hermano mayor de Juan Ramón Jiménez, Premio Nobel de Literatura de 1956. Eustaquio Jiménez entendería desde un primer momento la importancia de valorar la gesta colombina, sus marinos, el legado y de disponerlo turísticamente para una mayor protección y preservación en el tiempo. A pesar de ello, sus múltiples intentos quedaron en la nada, y el estallido de la Guerra Civil sucumbiría hasta nuestros días unos espacios históricos en las localidades de Moguer, Palos, Huelva y San Juan del Puerto que no terminan de dimensionarse tal y como deberían

The defense and enhancement of those known as Columbian places makes sense as a result of the IV Centenary of the Discovery of America and the foundation of institutions such as the Real Sociedad Colombina Huelva. From a patrimonial and tourist point of view, Eustaquio Jiménez (1880-1942) from Moguería would become, in the first decades of the 20th century, one of its staunchest defenders. This study intends to know more in depth the attempts and illusions of the older brother of Juan Ramón Jiménez, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1956. Eustaquio Jiménez would understand from the outset the importance of valuing the Columbian feat, its sailors, the legacy and selling it to tourists for greater protection and preservation over time. Despite this, his multiple attempts came to nothing, and the outbreak of the Civil War would succumb to this day some historical spaces in the towns of Moguer, Palos, Huelva and San Juan del Puerto that have not finished dimensioning as they should.
