Abstract

It is evident that the trafficking of migrants, in conjunction with organized crime, poses a substantial challenge to the protection of migrants, human rights and the security of nations. The risks, dangers and effects faced by migrants are manifold and manifest in the infringement of rights including life, integrity, sexual freedom, personal autonomy and security. This has been accompanied by a lack of adequate response from States, which necessitates a greater emphasis in the future on the effective addressing of the underlying causes of this phenomenon, prevention, investigation of the crime, prosecution, and timely punishment of those who are responsible, collaborators and final beneficiaries.
