Abstract
A hardground with Fe-Mn crusts of an important Middle-Upper Jurassic stratigraphic discontinuity in the External Subbetic has been analysed. These are mainly hydrogenetic-biogenic crusts induced by the activity of benthic microbial communities. The main organisms related with the Fe-Mn mineralization are probably fungi. The pelagic swells of the External Subbetic were a favourable environment for the development ofauthigenic mineralizations mainly by a very low rate of sedimentation and the existence of submarine volcanic processes in the neighboring Median Subbetic
