Abstract

En Aen. 6.285 y 7.324 Virgilio pretende ilustrar lo desagradable del contenido mediante la utilización de efectos de sonido igualmente desagradables. Virgilio transgrede los preceptos estilísticos que condenan el uso de genitivos plurales que formen homoteleuton y la utilización de una misma sílaba con la que terminar una palabra y comenzar la siguiente. Este efecto se ve corroborado mediante el uso de ecthlipsis y por la frecuente aparición de letras que el oído grecorromano consideraba cacofónicas.

In Aen. 6.285 and 7.324 Virgil aims to illustrate the unpleasantness of the content through the use of equally unpleasant sound effects. Virgil transgresses those stylistic precepts which condemn the use of those plural genitives which form homoteleuton and the use of the same syllable at the ending of a word and the beginning of the next. This effect is corroborated by the use of echtlipsis and the frequent apparition of letters that the Greek-Roman hearing considered cacophonic.
