Deformaciones en un área exterior del convento de la Virgen de las Huertas (Lorca, Murcia) atribuibles al terremoto local de 1579

Abstract

El convento de la Virgen de las Huertas está a1,5 km al SE de Lorca (Murcia). Obras en sus cimientos en 2000 y 2015 pusieron de manifiesto una serie estratigráfica que abarca desde tiempos romanos a la actualidad. Se encontraron estructuras de deformación superficial correspondientes al intervalo de tiempo entre 1568 y 1614, consistentes en depósitos replegados e imbricados asociados a superficies de despegue, denotando procesos de transporte en masa hacia la dirección N71°E. Se atribuyen a vibraciones sísmicas causadas por el terremoto histórico de Lorca de 1579, cuyo epicentro debió quedar al SO de la ciudad, en el tramo Lorca-Puerto-Lumbreras de la falla de Alhama de Murcia

The Virgen de las Huertas convent is 1.5 km to the SE of Lorca (Murcia). Works in the building foundations in the years 2000 and 2015 discovered a stratigraphic section ranging from Roman times to the present day. Several deformation structures made up of folded and imbricated materials were found resting on metric-scale detachment surfaces, suggesting mass-transport processes towards the direction N71°E. They are dated between 1568 and 1614 and, according to this and the rest of properties they are attributed to seismic vibrations caused by the historical Lorca 1579 earthquake. The epicentre of this event was most probably located to the SW of the city, in the Lorca-Puerto Lumbreras stretch of the Alhama de Murcia fault
