Abstract

The Teniente Mb. (Kimmeridgian, Iberian basin) is a reefal and oncoUtic fades belt, placed in the external part of the middle ramp areas, between mid ramp marly facies and outer ramp micritic facies. The unit was originated during the late stage of a transgressive systems tract. The development of the patch reefs and associated oncoUtic rudstones found on this unit, was controlled by low sedimentary rates associated to sea level rise, that favoured the growth of both colonial forms, algae and encrusting organisms. This factor, along with the bathimetry of the carbonate ramp, is thought to be the main controlling agent on the development of similar facies belts found in other sectors of the Kimmeridgian ramp, in the transition between marly and micritic facies
