Abstract

The Cretaceous transgression in the Sierra de Altomira starts with sandy (Utrillas Fm.) and dolomitic sediments (Villa de Ves Mb.), its detailed sequential analysis allow the recognition of five depositional sequences with a progressively less thickness from base to top: the basal sequence is terrigenous, appearing only in the north, it represents fluvial sediments. The second one is terrigenous in northern and southern areas, meanwhile it is dolomitic in the central area, it is interpreted as deposited in littoral environments. The 3rd and 4th sequences are composed by tidal flats dolostones. And finally, the upper sequence is composed of shallow dolostones, with a southwards decreasing thicknesses
