Fósiles de un hadrosauriforme en el Barremiense inferior de Aliaga (Geoparque del Maestrazgo, Teruel, España)

Abstract

En este trabajo comunicamos el hallazgo de dos centros vertebrales correspondientes a una vértebra dorsal y a otra caudal los cuales pertenecen a un gran dinosaurio ornitópodo. Los fósiles fueron hallados en el municipio de Aliaga (Teruel Geoparque del Maestrazgo), en un afloramiento de la Formación Areniscas de Camarillas (Barremiense inferior, Cretácico Inferior). Anatómicamente, el centro dorsal formaría parte del conjunto más posterior de la serie de vértebras dorsales. Este centro es corto y alto, anficélico o ligeramente platicélico, con márgenes que sobresalen fuertemente del centro. Por su parte, el centro caudal tendría una posición media dentro de la cola. Es platicélico. En su conjunto, estas características relacionan las vértebras de Aliaga con el taxón barremiense Iguanodon bernissartensis. Sin embargo, debido a lo fragmentario de los restos, los atribuimos a Hadrosauriformes indet. Los resultados de este trabajo respaldan la hipótesis de que había al menos tres taxones de grandes ornitópodos durante el Barremiense inferior en la Península Ibérica

In this work we report the finding of two vertebral centra of dorsal and caudal vertebrae, which belong to a large ornithopod dinosaur. These centra were found in the municipality of Aliaga (Teruel Maestrazgo Cultural Geopark), in an outcrop at the Sandstones of Camarillas Formation (lower Barremian, Lower Cretaceous).Anatomically, the dorsal centrum would form part of the most posterior set of the dorsal vertebrae series. This centrum is short and tall, amphicoelous or slightly platicoelous, with strongly everted margins from the centrum. Meanwhile, the caudal centrum would have a medium position in the tail. It is platicoelous. As a whole, these features relate vertebrae from Aliaga with the Barremian taxon Iguanodon bernissartensis. However, due to the fragmentary state of these remains, we attributed them as Hadrosauriformes indet. Results from this work support the hypothesis that there were, at least, three taxa of large ornithopods during the lower Barremian at the Iberian Peninsula
