Abstract

The survey of Panay island in the Philippines, carried out by the mining engineer Enrique Abella y Casariego between 1 885 and 1890, has been taken as an example of the geological studies in these islands during the last century. The late development of this type of studies are explained by political and economical reasons, as well as the special characteristics of the Archipelago
