During Neogene times Mallorca Island was subjected to an extensive regime characterized by NE-SW normal faults. On the other hand, geologic evidences indicate that this stress regime changed in Pliocene times. Thus géomorphologie evidences indicate the presence of compressive structures and Neogene and Quaternary materials are affected by compressive structures. Seismic activity of the area can be related to the former Neogene Faults. Focal mechanisms and geologic evidences indicate that the tectonic regime at present is characterized by a N-S compression together with a E-W extensionen_US
