Abstract
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) show that the current system of production and consumption, considered as linear, has weaknesses from an environmental, social and economic perspective that threaten its long-term sustainability. This paper conducts a comparative analysis between the linear model, “The R’s” (recycle, reuse, etc) and Circular Economy (CE), along the stages of the productive process, with the aim of identifying the contributions of these productive strategies to sustainability. The conclusions show the limitations of the linear production and consumption process, and the shortcomings of the partial strategies. Likewise, it shows that the CE is not a recompilation of different sustainable techniques but a global proposal that redefine the industrial and productive structure held by the lineal model to achieve an economic sustainable strategy aligned with the 2030 Agenda
