Gobernanza adaptativa en una Cooperativa Internacional de Crédito: Estudio del caso Oikocredit

Abstract

Este artículo presenta el caso de la cooperativa internacional de crédito Oikocredit como un ejemplo de innovación en sus formas de gobernanza para hacer frente a los retos que su tamaño y sector de actividad -con las crecientes exigencias desde los reguladores financieros- le plantean. Para ello, repasamos los principales aportes de la literatura sobre gobernanza en grandes cooperativas, antes de presentar a Oikocredit, su historia, las razones e hitos de la evolución de su gobernanza en estos tres últimos años, para analizar dichos cambios a la luz de los principios cooperativos. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This article presents the case of the international credit cooperative Oikocredit as an example of innovation in its governance methods to address the challenges posed by its size and sector of activity—along with the growing demands of financial regulators. We review the main contributions of the literature on governance in large cooperatives before introducing Oikocredit, its history, and the reasons and milestones in the evolution of its governance over the past three years. These changes are analyzed in light of the cooperative principles.
