Estudio petrológico y geoquímico de rocas volcánicas neógenas en la zona de Cartagena-Mar Menor (SE España)

Abstract

Los afloramientos volcánicos neógenos de la zona de Cartagena-Mar Menor consisten en domos constituidos por brechas volcánicas en sus bordes y materiales masivos hacia su interior. Las rocas son microporfídicas con matriz afanítica y su característica más llamativa es la abundancia de enclaves metamórficos restíticos e ígneos observables en ellas. Los datos petrográficos y geoquímicos sugieren que las rocas volcánicas del Mar Menor procederían de un magma peraluminoso cortical, mientras que las de la zona de Cartagena se habrían originado a partir de la mezcla entre un magma cortical similar al de la serie calco-alcalina del Mar Menor y uno mantélico. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Neogene volcanic outcrops of the Cartagena-Mar Menor area consist of domes made up of volcanic breccias at their edges and massive materials towards their core. Rocks are microporphyritic with aphanitic matrix and their most striking feature is the abundance of metamorphic restitic and igneous enclaves in their outcrops. Petrography and geochemical data suggest that the volcanic rocks in the Mar Menor would have come from a crustal peraluminous magma, while those in the Cartagena area would have originated from the mixture between a crustal magma similar to that of the Mar Menor area and a mantle magma.
