T1 Evaluation of the hydrological alteration of La Ratosa playa-lake (N of Málaga) due to theintensive use of groundwater

AB El régimen hidrológico de la laguna de La Ratosa (Málaga) se ha vistosignificativamente afectado por la explotación intensiva de las aguas subterráneasen la zona. En régimen natural, esta laguna recibía la escorrentíasuperficial generada en su cuenca vertiente (CV), constituida por arcillas ymargas, y descarga subterránea desde el sector meridional de acuífero carbonáticode Sierra de la Camorra. Este acuífero, que aflora en el sector orientalde la CV, está sometido a explotación de sus recursos subterráneos. Eldescenso generalizado del nivel piezométrico debido al bombeo, ha reducidosignificativamente los caudales de descarga en este sector de la CV. Entreotras afecciones, el área de inundación media y el hidroperiodo de la lagunase han reducido. En este trabajo se ha realizado la caracterización del régimenhidrológico de la laguna de La Ratosa mediante la aplicación de unmodelo precipitación-escorrentía y se discute el efecto de los cambios producidospor la explotación intensiva de las aguas subterráneas
AB The hydrological regime of La Ratosa playa-lake (Málaga) has been significantlyaffected by the intensive exploitation of groundwater in the area.In unaltered conditions, this lake received surface and subsurface runoff fromits watershed (WS), made up mainly by clays and marls, and groundwaterfrom the southern sector of the carbonate aquifer of Sierra de La Camorra.The aquifer, which crops out in the easternmost sector of the WS, is currentlysubjected to intensive exploitation of groundwater resources. The depressionof the piezometric level caused by the groundwater pumping has drasticallyreduced the groundwater discharge to the WS. Among other things,both the average flooding area of the playa-lake and its hydroperiod werediminished. This paper presents the hydrological characterization of LaRatosa playa-lake, based on the development of a rainfall-runoff model anddiscusses the major changes caused by the intensive exploitation of groundwater
