abstract = {O presente texto tem por objetivo apresentar e analisar as citações que a imprensa
brasileira realizou sobre Gumersindo de Azcárate entre os anos 1870 e 1929. Segundo
a Hemeroteca Digital, há mais de 100 menções a Azcárate nos jornais brasileiros deste
período, narrando fatos da sua vida acadêmica, política e até mesmo pessoal. Busca-se
relacionar suas aparições nos periódicos com os fatos políticos que aconteciam tanto
na Espanha como também no Brasil, momento em que a recente e cambaleante transição
entre Monarquia e República necessitava referências de líderes republicanos pelo
mundo. O texto se divide em duas partes. Primeiro analisa-se a importância da utilização
dos jornais como fonte de pesquisa historiográfica, seus desafios e limitações, e,
depois, analisam-se as principais citações a Azcárate nos jornais brasileiros, separadas
por décadas. Ao final, é possível perceber que sua fama como líder republicano atravessou
o oceano e percorreu os locais mais inusitados do Brasil, estreitando as relações
entre estes dois países.},
abstract = {The aim of this text is to present and analyze the mentions that the Brazilian press made
of Gumersindo de Azcárate between 1870 and 1929. According to Hemeroteca Digital,
there are more than 100 mentions of Azcárate in Brazilian newspapers from this period,
recounting events from his academic, political and even personal life. The aim is to relate
his appearances in the newspapers to the political events that were taking place both in
Spain and in Brazil, at a time when the recent and shaky transition between the Monarchy
and the Republic required references from republican leaders around the world. The text is
divided into two parts. First, it analyzes the importance of using newspapers as a source of
historiographical research, its challenges and limitations, and then it analyzes the main
quotes about Azcárate in Brazilian newspapers, separated by decade. In the end, it is possible
to see that his fame as a republican leader crossed the ocean and traveled to the most
unusual places in Brazil, strengthening relations between these two countries.},
