AB Se analizan en este artículo los escasos testimonios documentales conservados sobre Álvar García de Illas, personaje mal conocido que obtuvo el señorío de la torre del Bao (Los Molares, Sevilla) en 1336, participó en la embajada enviada por Alfonso XI a Clemente VI en Aviñón en junio de 1342 y fue nombrado alcalde mayor de la Algeciras recién conquistada. Se estudian la experiencia previa de García de Illas en tareas negociadoras de carácter internacional, su condición de alcalde del rey y sus vínculos con la familia real y con el estamento nobiliario.
AB In  this  paper  we  analyze  the  scarce  documentary  surviving  testimonies  regarding  the  life  of  Álvar  García  de  Illas,  who  obtained  the  dominion  of  the  Torre  del  Bao  (Los  Molares,  Seville)  in  1336, participated in the embassy sent by Alfonso XI to Clemente VI in Avignon in June of 1342 and was appointed mayor of the recently conquered city of Algeciras. We study the previous experience of García de Illas in international negotiating tasks, his status as mayor of the king and his links with the royal family and the nobility establishment.
