AB El siglo XVIII será un período crucial en la lucha de las mujeres por lareivindicación de sus derechos. El espíritu revolucionario de la Ilustración había penetrado también en ellas, que anhelaban ansiosas la llegada de un girodefinitivo que culminase en una transformación radical de la sociedad, donde,finalmente, hubiera cabida para ambos sexos en igualdad de condiciones. Sinembargo, la tan aclamada proclamación de la Declaración de los derechos delhombre y del ciudadano, aprobada en París, en 1789, ante todo pronóstico, lasexcluirá de la esfera de los derechos humanos. Muchas fueron las reaccionesen toda Europa contra tamaña injusticia, entre ellas la publicación, en Italia, en1794, del tratado Breve difesa dei diritti delle Donne, del que daremos cuentaen el presente artículo
AB The 18th century will be a crucial period in the women’s fight forthe vindication of their rights. The revolutionary spirit of the Enlightenmenthad also penetrated them, who anxiously longed for the arrival of a definitiveturn that would culminate in a radical transformation of society, where,finally, there would be room for both sexes on equal terms. However, theacclaimed proclamation of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of theCitizen, approved in Paris in 1789, above all expectations, will exclude themfrom the sphere of human rights. There were many reactions in Europeagainst such injustice, among them the publication, in Italy, in 1794, of thetreatise Breve difesa dei diritti delle Donne, which we will give an accountof in this article
