AB Spain is an eminently tourist country, which allows the creation of countlessjobs and contributes greatly to GDP growth. Millions of people visit thiscountry every year, and more than 80% do so through air transport. Thispaper studies whether the 13 Spanish airlines with the highest revenues in2018 were efficient in that year, thus filling a gap in the tourism literature.For this purpose, the non-parametric DEA technique has been used, usingas inputs the total number of workers in the company and the total numberof seats available (airline capacity). Total revenue and number ofpassengers have been used as outputs. The results obtained show that allthe airlines studied within the IAG group (Iberia, Vueling, Air Nostrum,Iberia Express) are efficient, in addition to the Canary Islands airlines(Binter Canarias, Canarias Airlines and Canary Fly) and Air Europa.Likewise, the reference airlines for the inefficient ones have beendetermined, which will have to reduce the number of workers or makechanges in capacity in order to achieve greater income and be efficient
AB España es un país eminentemente turístico, lo que permite la creación de innumerables puestos de trabajo y contribuye en gran medida al crecimiento del PIB. Millones de personas visitan este país cada año, y más del 80% lo hace a través del transporte aéreo. Este trabajo estudia si las 13 aerolíneas españolas con mayores ingresos en 2018 fueron eficientes en ese año, llenando así un vacío en la literatura turística. Para ello se ha utilizado la técnica DEA no paramétrica, utilizando como insumos el número total de trabajadores de la empresa y el número total de plazas disponibles (capacidad de la línea aérea). Los ingresos totales y el número de pasajeros se han utilizado como productos. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que todas las aerolíneas estudiadas dentro del grupo IAG (Iberia, Vueling, Air Nostrum, Iberia Express) son eficientes, además de las aerolíneas canarias (Binter Canarias, Canarias Airlines y Canary Fly) y Air Europa. Asimismo, se han determinado las aerolíneas de referencia para las ineficientes, las cuales deberán reducir el número de trabajadores o realizar cambios de capacidad para lograr mayores ingresos y ser eficientes
