This article aims atexploring how exercise performed in different natural settings can contribute to improving healthand to a more sustainable world. We define “exercise” as a form of physical activity undertaken toincrease fitness, health, and well-being, and argue for the importance of “green” and “blue” exerciseas forms of physical activity that are associated with the protection and sustainability of naturalsettings and the promotion of planetary health. Blue and green exercise should become a focusof public policies, especially when outdoor activities are being identified as fundamental for thepromotion of mental, physical, social, and spiritual health. The current paper intends to raise theawareness of political decision-makers and professionals in education, environment, and heathsectors for the potential of green and blue exercise as specific exercise practices that are healthy, joyful, and environmentally friendly PB MDPI SN 2071-1050 (electrónico) YR 2021 FD 2021 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10272/20254 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10272/20254 LA eng NO Loureiro, N., Calmeiro, L., Marques, A., Gomez-Baya, D., & Gaspar de Matos, M.
