AB El artículo se propone repasar y actualizardatos en torno a la vida de uno de losmás significados caballeros del otoño de laEdad Media castellana, cotejando estos datoscon el avance en los estudios sobre suprincipal testimonio biográfico, que es a suvez uno de los textos literarios medievalesclásicos. Nacido hacia 1378, Pero Niño,futuro conde de Buelna, se educó en el ambientede la corte real, donde su madre sirviócomo ama de cría del futuro rey EnriqueIII. Hacia 1430, Gutierre Díaz de Gamesempezaría a escribir sus hechos en forma deextensa biografía. El Victorial es un documentocrucial para la historia de España yFrancia, especialmente significativo para lahistoria militar y de la marina, porque lasaventuras de Pero Niño le condujeron, entre1404 y 1406, desde la costa de la Berberíahasta las costas de Inglaterra y desde la cortede Castilla a la de Francia. De regreso enCastilla, participaría en la campaña contraGranada dirigida por Fernando de Antequera,futuro rey de Aragón.
AB The article aims to update data aboutthe life of one of the most relevant MedievalCastilian knights, Pero Niño. It comparesthese data with the information retrievedin scholarly works about his biographicalnarrative, one of the most important classicSpanish medieval texts. Born around1378, Pero Niño, future count of Buelna,was raised in the royal household where hismother served as nursemaid to the futureKing Enrique III. Around the early 1430s,Gutierre Díaz de Games began to write theaccount of Niño’s deeds. The Victorial is acrucial document of the history of Spainand France, especially significant for bothmedieval military and marine history, becausethe adventures of Pero Niño tookhim, between 1404 and 1406, from theBerber Coast to the shores of England, andfrom the court of Castile to that of France.Back in Castile, he participated in the latestcampaign against Moorish Granada, directedby Fernando de Antequera, later King Fernando of Aragon.
